The Red Lion is situated in the heart of Wharfedale and we are surrounded by some of the finest Grouse Moors in the country - Dallowgill, Stean and Bolton Abbey to name a few.
We have been fortunate to secure shooting on the Grimwith Estate, which lies slightly North of The Lion between Grassington and Pateley Bridge. Part of the estate was flooded some years ago to form Grimwith Reservoir - this forms a spectacular backdrop to some exciting shooting.
Arrive at The Lion on the day prior to the shoot where afternoon tea will be served in the sitting room. Dinner in the restaurant will be from 7.30 p.m. Your day starts at around 9.00 a.m. when we meet after breakfast ready to travel to Grimwith. There will be 5-6 drives in the day with 3 drives normally taking place before lunch. We adjourn to the well equiped shooting hut (log fires!!) where you will be served a hot two course lunch inclusive of all drinks. Back to the moor for the final 2-3 drives finishing at around 4 p.m. when we will serve afternoon tea before returning to the hotel. Dinner will again be served at 8 p.m. in the restaurant, departure after breakfast the following day.
Shooting Breaks Should you be staying for a second or third days shooting then the same itinery as the previous day. Wives/partners are welcome to accompany you and will be charged at Hotel rates only. Work undertaken in recent years at the estate - new roads etc give good accessibility to the less mobile, those with mobility problems or even those who didn't wish to walk!!
The nearby towns of Harrogate and Leeds provide an alternative for partners who prefer not to spend the day on the moor.
